Memory Plus Program 23 January 2020 – A new WHO self-help approach for managing distress and coping with adversity has shown to be safe and effective in a trial involving South Sudanese women living in Uganda. The results of the study, published in The Lancet Global Health today, indicate that guided self-help could be a promising strategy to address the vast gap in mental health support in humanitarian response situations. WHO will make the self-help intervention available for widespread use once positive results have been seen in a second trial. Press release Paper in The Lancet Global Health
Mental health in India is in its developing stages. There aren't enough professionals to support the demand. According to the Indian Psychiatric Society, there are around 9000 psychiatrists only in the country as of January 2019. Going by this figure, India has 0.75 Psychiatrists per 100,000 population, while the desirable number is anything above 3 Psychiatrists per 100,000. While the number of psychiatrists has increased since 2010, it is still far from a healthy ratio.
